Entrepreneurs often juggle a million things at once, so when it comes to copywriting, their most pressing needs usually fall into a few key categories.
Today's article looks at 4 of the most common copywriting challenges and offers some direction on how to work your way through them.
We'll identify the other 3 next week.
1. Clarity and Messaging
Problem: Entrepreneurs often struggle to clearly communicate their value proposition.
Need: Copy that explains what they do, who it’s for, and why it matters—without jargon or fluff.
Solution: Using the following guidelines will help you avoid ambiguity and ensure that vital information (the value you offer) is effectively communicated.
- Use simple and straightforward language
- Structure messages logically for clarity
- Avoid confusing acronyms and jargon
- Provide accurate
information
- Read what you write out loud for understanding and clarity
Following these tips on a consistent basis will help you become a more persuasive communicator, whether you're a seasoned writer or new to creating messaging that connects with your reader.
2. Conversions
Problem: Web traffic doesn’t always mean sales.
Need: Persuasive copy that converts—whether it's used for sign-ups, sales, bookings, or other actions.
Solutions: Although there far too many factors to list here that play a role in developing compelling messaging that converts prospects into clients and customers, get these two right and you’ll be on your way
Define Your Target
Audience
Getting clear on your ideal target audience makes it MUCH easier to write good copy that connects with and converts them.
It allows you to:
- Use language they’re familiar
with
- Match your tone to their expectations
- Address their specific needs and interests
Devote Time To Creating Killer Headlines
The headline is typically the most
important part of your copy because it’s often the first thing people read.
A great headline has an immediate impact on the user and encourages them to keep reading.
Here are some quick
tips for writing effective headlines:
- Focus on one key message
- Keep it short and easy to read
- Appeal to your target readers’ needs and emotions
- Front-load the most important words
- Use specific and action-oriented language
Here's a recent post I wrote about how to create a high-converting landing page.
3. Brand Voice Consistency
Problem: Your messaging feels scattered across platforms.
Need: Find a style that fits your brand and use it at every opportunity.
Solution: Develop a consistent tone of voice that matches your brand’s personality and resonates with your audience.
Use these guidelines to develop your brand voice:
- Voice Attributes: How do you want your messaging to feel? Friendly? Witty? Professional? Bold?
- Tone Variations: Decide what tone you want based on context
(e.g. casual on social media? formal in reports?)
- Dos and Don’ts: Determine what fits your voice vs. what doesn’t. Gary Vee ain’t for everyone! 😀
- Vocabulary & Style: What are your preferred terms? Words to avoid? What are your thoughts about grammar and spelling? Copywriting that resonates with your audience often flys in the face of proper grammar and other writing conventions.
4. Time and Efficiency
Problem: Wearing too many hats. (other entrepreneurs, not us!)
Need: Work on stuff that moves the needle.
Solution: Implement a plug-and-play where you can use templates or find a go-to copywriter you can trust to deliver quickly.

Effective time management is a cornerstone of successful entrepreneurship.
By effectively prioritizing tasks and maximizing productivity, you can reduce stress, concentrate on core business activities, and increase your company growth.
This is especially crucial when managing multiple responsibilities.
Especially copywriting!
But effective time management can be elusive when it comes to copywriting.
Here’s a quick guide to help you write faster, sharper, and more effective promotional copy:
>Use proven structures to avoid starting from scratch:
- AIDA: Attention → Interest → Desire → Action
- PAS: Problem → Agitate → Solution
- FAB: Features → Advantages → Benefits
>Use a “swipe”
file
- Save great headlines, emails, ads, and social captions you come across.
- Organize them by category (e.g., web copy, product launches, email marketing, testimonials).
That way, when it’s time to write, you’ll have instant inspiration.
>Use AI or Templates when writing drafting
- Use AI to quickly create a rough draft based on your goals and tone. AI is great for the heavy lifting you need getting started. However, it hasn't been to replace the need for human copywriting where the ability to create copy that persuades needs an emotional component.
- Or create your own plug-and-play templates with blanks for product name, benefit,
CTA, etc.
>Use a copy checklist
Before hitting publish, do a quick review:
- Is the benefit clear?
- Is there a strong CTA?
- Is the tone on-brand?
- Is it scannable (bullets, bold, short lines)?
Okay, so there are 4 of the Top
7 copywriting challenges entrepreneurs face.
