For many marketers, writing articles and blog posts can be a slog.
I know...I know...hey Gerry, you been livin' under a rock?! Ever heard of AI?
Yes. I have. The problem is...so has everyone else. So if you're happy sounding like most of your competitors, fill your boots.
But for those of you who want their posts and articles to sound like they were written by a human communicator who understands the nuances that move people to take notice and take action, pull up a chair.
Here is a formula you can use to write compelling articles and posts.
(This overview assumes an article where you want to make five points.)
Paragraph 1 – Define the problem.
Paragraph 2 – Review possible solutions
Paragraph 3 – Propose your solution
Paragraphs 4 – 8 – Spell out your five step solution
Paragraph 9 – Summarize your argument
Paragraph 10 – Suggest an action step
Try and keep your paragraph length short with no more than three sentences per paragraph. Two sentences often works better.
Ohhhhhhhh....you want an example...
Here ya
go:
Let’s say you want to write an article about how to turn more website visitors into clients.
And let’s say you are making the case that the reader should buy this super duper online
conversion course you are promoting.
How do you do that without sounding like Jerry Lundegaard in Fargo? (try getting THAT from AI!)
Here’s how you do it:
Note: Remember, what you read next is NOT a finished article. Just notes about HOW to write an article around that topic.
Paragraph 1 – Define the problem
We all need to convert web visitors into clients but there is so much clutter out there that it becomes overwhelming and expensive. Prospects are suffering from information overload. And being exposed to terrible messaging.
Paragraph 2 –
Review possible solutions
You COULD waste time and money experimenting and you MIGHT find something that works. You could hire a "guru" - you know, the ones who read a few books and procliam themselves masters. Good luck with that!
Paragraph 3 – Propose your solution
A better way is to model someone who has “been there and done that.” Someone you can trust and who will help you.
Paragraphs 4 – 8 – Your five-step solution
Take these steps in researching solutions.
- How are the leaders in the “online conversion” field doing it?
- Can you afford to do what they teach you to do?
- Does
what they are proposing make sense to you?
- Do they have a good reputation online?
- Will you take action on what they suggest?
Paragraph 9 – Summarize your argument
If you find someone you can trust who has a proven model for converting web visitors into clients and you can afford to use what they suggest and will take action, there is every reason to believe it will work for you.
Paragraph 10 – Suggest an action step
Make a list of the different ways to convert web visitors that come to your website and choose one that interests you most. (Possibly include the list in the article.)
Ok, so that will give you a framework for writing you article and make the process a lot
easier.
(I will write THAT article in the next few weeks and send it along so you can see what the finished product looks like.)
For now, YOUR action step is this – think about things YOU
can teach people to do in three or five short steps.
It might be getting traffic to a website or gaining better health. Doesn’t matter really — the process is what’s important.
If you follow the
process above you will be able to write meaningful articles quickly from your own experience or from your observations or research.
Sure, use AI where it makes sense. It's great for heavy lifting. It's not great at persuading and leading prospects to buy.
I have written many articles and posts using this same formula. It works for me. It will work for you too!
